The short answer
GoHighLevel AI Employee is HighLevel's AI bundle (chat, voice, review replies, content and assistants), sold per client sub-account in three ways: pay per use with no monthly fee, Growth at $50 a month (1,000 Conversation AI replies and 100 Voice AI minutes), or Unlimited at $97 a month under fair use. No plan includes it, and phone charges are always extra. On Voice AI alone, Unlimited beats pay per use past about 1,426 minutes a month on a standard voice, while Growth never does.
What AI Employee includes
AI Employee is the name HighLevel uses for its AI products and the plans that pay for them. Each sub-account can use:
- Conversation AI: a chat agent that replies to leads on SMS, email, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, live chat and the website chat widget.
- Voice AI: an AI receptionist that answers inbound calls, places outbound calls from workflows and runs as a website voice widget. It needs an LC Phone or Twilio number.
- Reviews AI: drafts and sends replies to reviews.
- Content AI: writes text and generates images.
- Ask AI and AI Studio: Ask AI is the in-app assistant that can answer questions and prepare or complete tasks inside HighLevel. AI Studio went live for all accounts on September 22, 2026.
- Managed Agents: billed at token cost on pay per use and counted in runs on the plans.
Two things sit outside the bundle. Agent Studio, which covers multimodal and specialized features such as image and video generation, is pay per use on every plan. Funnel and Website AI, Email AI and the Workflow AI builder are free for everyone within HighLevel's limits.
Pay per use vs Growth vs Unlimited
The choice is made per sub-account, so one client can sit on Unlimited while the rest stay on pay per use.

Pay-per-use rates
Without a plan, each product bills by what it consumes. Conversation AI is priced per million tokens, input and output separately:

HighLevel's own worked example: a conversation that uses 100,000 input tokens and 25,000 output tokens on GPT-5 costs $0.375. Long prompts, long chat history and large knowledge bases push token use up.
When each option wins
Voice AI alone: Growth never beats pay per use. Its 100 included minutes would cost about $6.80 on a standard voice and at most about $20.00 on the priciest setup we model, against a $50 fee, and minutes past 100 bill at pay-per-use rates either way.
Unlimited wins once voice minutes pass $97 divided by the per-minute cost. That is 1,426 minutes on a standard voice, and far fewer on premium voices:

Chat alone: the allowance is worth less than it looks. If a reply uses about 4,000 input and 200 output tokens (our assumption for prompt, history and knowledge base), Growth's 1,000 replies would cost $1.40 to $9.60 on pay per use across the four models. Token use would have to run about 5 times our estimate before the replies alone justify $50.
So Growth is a budgeting choice more than a saving: one known fee, with Ask AI, AI Studio and 100 Managed Agent runs included. Unlimited is the one that saves money, for clients whose AI receptionist takes more than about 194 to 571 calls a month, depending on the voice. Rebilling and SaaS plans
Only Agency Pro ($497 a month) can rebill AI usage to clients. HighLevel offers two ways to do it: a markup on its cost, or a fixed client rate per Conversation AI message or Voice AI minute, set separately for each product. On Unlimited you pay AI charges yourself and recover them through your own fee.
You can also resell Growth or Unlimited as a monthly subscription at a price you choose. Since July 29, 2026, the SaaS Configurator lets you pick Growth or Unlimited when you add AI Employee to a SaaS plan; before that it was one all-or-nothing add-on. How the pricing changed
AI Employee pricing has changed several times, which is why older reviews disagree:
- October 2024: HighLevel's blog described AI Employee as normally $97 a month, and free until December 31, 2024.
- May 2026: the $97 plan covered inbound Voice AI only; outbound calls and the voice widget were billed extra. From May 20, Voice AI pay per use split into a $0.045 engine charge plus a separate voice charge.
- Mid 2026: the $50 Growth plan appeared on HighLevel's pricing page between the May and August 2026 versions.
- July 29, 2026: SaaS plans can bundle Growth or Unlimited.
- September 2026: Unlimited covers inbound, outbound and widget Voice AI.
Fair use and phone charges
"Unlimited" is subject to HighLevel's fair use policy: if usage is excessive, abusive or hurts platform performance, HighLevel may throttle, limit, require an upgrade or end access, with or without notice. HighLevel does not publish a number for what counts as excessive, so treat a very high-volume client as a risk to discuss with HighLevel first.
Phone charges are never included. An AI-answered inbound call pays $0.01165 a minute for the phone line, rounded up per call, on every AI option. For 100 calls of 2.5 minutes that is $3.50 a month on top of the AI. The LC Phone pricing guide lists every phone rate, and the Voice AI pricing guide puts the two together per call.

- Chosen per client, so small clients stay on cheap pay per use

Watch out for
- Phone minutes are always extra, even on Unlimited
- No published number for fair use
- Growth rarely saves money on usage alone
- Prices changed several times in 2026, so recheck before quoting clients

Is GoHighLevel AI free?
Partly. Funnel and Website AI, Email AI, the knowledge base and the Workflow AI builder are free within HighLevel's limits. Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI and Content AI cost money: either pay per use at token and unit rates, or AI Employee Growth at $50 or Unlimited at $97 a month per sub-account.

Is the AI Employee plan included in the GoHighLevel subscription?
No. None of the Starter, Unlimited or Agency Pro plans include AI Employee. It is an add-on billed per enabled sub-account, and any sub-account without it runs on pay per use.
Is Ask AI free in GoHighLevel?
Not on pay per use, where Ask AI is billed at token cost for each session. Growth includes a usage allowance measured in 5-hour windows, and Unlimited includes three times the Growth allowance. When you hit the limit, access resets at the end of the window.
How much does GoHighLevel Voice AI cost without the Unlimited plan?
On pay per use: $0.045 a minute for the voice engine, $0.015 for a standard voice and the model's tokens, about $0.068 a minute on a budget model, plus $0.01165 a minute for an inbound phone line.
