The short answer
GoHighLevel for law firms works as one system for calls, texts, bookings, reviews and follow-up. A single law firm fits on Starter at $97 a month. With our assumed volumes the all-in bill is about $203 a month. An agency running ten law firms on Unlimited pays about $135 per business.
A person with a legal problem is anxious, often calls several firms, and tends to hire the one that picks up and sounds organized. Attorneys are in court or with clients, receptionists serve current clients first, and after-hours calls go to voicemail. Intake also carries real risk. Collect too many facts before a conflict check and the firm can be barred from a matter; say too much and a caller may believe they received legal advice. A law firm needs intake that is fast, short and disciplined.
Why law firms miss leads
These are the calls and messages a typical law firm has to catch. Each one is a job, a booking or a sale if someone answers quickly:
- New matter: do I have a case
- Consultation booking and fees
- Which practice areas the firm handles
- Existing client asking for their attorney
- Opposing party or another lawyer calling
- Court date or deadline questions
- Billing and payment questions
Five workflows to build first
- Inquiry to conflict check queueWeb and phone inquiries land in a New Inquiry stage with only the details needed for a conflict check, such as party names and matter type. A task goes to the staff member who runs conflicts before anyone discusses facts.
- Consultation booking after clearanceOnce staff clear conflicts and accept the inquiry, the prospect gets a text with a consultation booking link and the firm's consultation fee policy, so no appointment is set before the check.
- Engagement follow-upAfter a consultation, a short sequence reminds the prospect about the engagement letter and retainer, and a final message makes clear the firm does not represent them unless they sign, the point of a non-engagement letter.
- Existing client routingCalls and texts from current clients are tagged and routed to the assigned attorney's team, which keeps new-client marketing messages away from people the firm already represents.
- Attorney-approved review requestsWhen a matter closes well, a workflow can ask for a review, but only after the responsible attorney approves it for that client. The firm's replies to any review should never reveal client information.
HighLevel's workflow builder runs all of these, and missed call text back is usually the quickest win.

Adding an AI receptionist
Voice AI can answer the calls above around the clock, book them into the calendar and pass the hard ones to a person. On our assumptions it costs about $0.32 per answered call, phone line included. What the AI should handle, what it should hand to staff and a sample call are in our guide to an AI receptionist for law firms.
Rules to watch
Prospective clients and confidentiality. ABA Model Rule 1.18 treats what a prospective client shares as confidential even if the firm never takes the matter, and significantly harmful information can disqualify the firm from representing someone adverse. The rule's comments advise limiting the first conversation to what is needed to decide whether to take the case, so keep AI intake short.
Supervising the AI. Model Rule 5.3 requires reasonable measures so that nonlawyer assistance is compatible with a lawyer's duties, and ABA Formal Opinion 512 says lawyers using generative AI must consider competence, confidentiality and client communication. Treat the AI receptionist like a new intake hire: review its prompt, transcripts and data handling.
Advertising and solicitation. Model Rule 7.1 bars false or misleading statements about a lawyer's services, and Rule 7.3 limits soliciting employment through live person-to-person contact, including real-time phone calls, for pecuniary gain. States adopt their own versions, so check your state bar's rules before any outbound AI calling.

Which plan
One law firm fits on Starter at $97 a month, which includes 3 sub-accounts. Move to Unlimited at $297 if you run more than three locations or brands. Agencies serving many law firms should compare Unlimited with Agency Pro and SaaS Mode, which lets you resell and mark up usage.
