The short answer

GoHighLevel number porting transfers a phone number a business already owns from its current carrier into a HighLevel sub-account, so calls and texts run through LC Phone. US numbers can be ported in-app by agency owners and admins with Labs enabled, which generates the Letter of Authorization for you; everything else goes through a manual form with a signed LOA you upload. HighLevel quotes 2 to 4 weeks for a standard request and 6 to 8 weeks for large or complex ports, with no downtime while it runs. HighLevel's phone pricing guide lists no port fee; the number then rents at $1.15 a month (local) or $2.15 (toll-free).

In-app port or manual form

HighLevel runs two porting routes. The in-app flow is open to Agency Owners and Agency Admins, handles US landline and wireless numbers only, and emails an auto-generated LOA to the authorized representative for a digital signature. Requests are tracked from the port-in list under the phone numbers settings. The manual form covers the cases the in-app flow does not, and it is also the only route if you want the number to land on a Twilio account instead of LC Phone. With the manual form you sign the LOA yourself and upload it, and the company name field on the LOA can stay blank.

What the losing carrier checks

Almost every rejected port comes down to details that do not match the old carrier's records, and a rejected request cannot be edited, only deleted and resubmitted, which restarts the wait. Gather these before submitting, and copy names and addresses from the latest carrier bill rather than from memory or the client's website, because the carrier checks them against its own account records:

  • A billing statement no older than 90 days (manual form: PDF under 4 MB; in-app: PDF or image up to 10 MB). Google Voice numbers can use a screenshot showing the numbers and the account email
  • The current carrier account number, and for wireless numbers the PIN or passcode (or last four SSN digits where the carrier asks for it)
  • The authorized person's name and the service address exactly as the carrier has them; P.O. boxes are rejected
  • The numbers in E.164 format, for example +15551234567, and the Location ID of the destination sub-account

Timeline and keeping the line working

HighLevel says standard requests take 2 to 4 weeks from the day complete documents are in, and bigger or complex ports 6 to 8 weeks. Once the carriers agree, they issue a Firm Order Commitment with a scheduled window, but same-day or date-specific ports are not guaranteed. Keep the old service active and paid until HighLevel confirms completion: the number keeps working during the process, and cancelling early can kill the port. Two rules catch people out. The destination, LC Phone or Twilio, cannot be changed after submission, and a rejected request cannot be edited, so you delete it and submit a new one.

After the port: texting needs registration

A ported number can take calls once the port completes, but it cannot send business texts to US recipients until the paperwork catches up. US local numbers need an approved A2P 10DLC brand and campaign, toll-free numbers need toll-free verification, and international numbers must meet their own country's rules. Brand review alone takes several business days, so plan it alongside the port rather than after it. Clients who rely on missed call text back or appointment reminders should hear about this gap before you schedule the move.

Alternatives to a full port

If a client wants to keep their carrier for calls, HighLevel offers number hosting: SMS and MMS run through LC Phone while voice stays with the original carrier. It generally works for US and Canadian landlines and toll-free numbers, not for mobile numbers or numbers already texting through another service, and HighLevel quotes about 3 to 10 business days for approval. For outbound calls only, a verified caller ID feature (added through Labs in April 2026) lets users call from a number they already own after a one-time ID check with a government ID and selfie, at normal outbound call rates.

Questions

How long does porting a number into GoHighLevel take?
HighLevel quotes 2 to 4 weeks for standard requests once all documents are submitted, and 6 to 8 weeks for larger or more complex ports. Same-day or date-specific ports are not guaranteed. Most delays come from rejected paperwork, such as a bill older than 90 days or an address that does not match the carrier's records, so check those before submitting.
Will the phone number stop working during the port?
HighLevel says there is no downtime and the business keeps full use of the number while the port is in progress. The important step is to keep the account with the current carrier active until HighLevel confirms the port is complete, because closing it early can cause the transfer to fail.
Can I port a mobile number into GoHighLevel?
Yes, the in-app flow accepts US wireless numbers as well as landlines. You need the wireless account number and the PIN or passcode, or the last four SSN digits if the carrier asks for them. Mobile numbers are not eligible for number hosting, though, so for a mobile line the choice is a full port or a new number.
Can I port a number to Twilio instead of LC Phone?
Yes, but only through HighLevel's manual porting form, which supports both LC Phone and Twilio destinations. The in-app flow ports to LC Phone. Decide before submitting, because the destination cannot be changed once the request is in, and switching later means starting a new request.
