The short answer
GoHighLevel WhatsApp connects a WhatsApp Business number to a sub-account, so WhatsApp chats land in the same Conversations inbox as SMS and email and can be sent from workflows. It is an add-on at $10 a month per sub-account, plus Meta's per-message rates. Businesses can send normal replies inside the customer service window that a customer's message opens, while outreach after 24 hours needs a Meta-approved template. From October 1, 2026 HighLevel removes its 5% processing fee, the US marketing template rate drops to $0.025, and Meta starts charging for service messages past 1,000 free per number each month.

What the add-on gives you
WhatsApp messages appear in Conversations next to every other channel, and templates can be sent from workflows, bulk actions and scheduled sends. Conversation AI bots can answer on WhatsApp, and a Missed Call WhatsApp Back setting can message a caller on WhatsApp when a call is not answered. WhatsApp calls are supported too: HighLevel bills business-initiated calls per minute in 6-second pulses, while calls the customer starts are free. Custom call dispositions also work on supported WhatsApp calls, so outcomes can drive workflows the same way as phone calls.
Three ways to connect a number
HighLevel supports connecting an existing WhatsApp Business App number in coexistence mode, creating a new WhatsApp Business Account, or migrating from another business solution provider. You need a Facebook Business Manager account, and for a new account the number must not already be registered with the WhatsApp app. LC Phone and Twilio numbers can be used.
Coexistence lets the business keep using the WhatsApp Business App on the phone while HighLevel handles the same number, and it can import up to six months of chat history and contacts. It has limits: one number per account under coexistence, not available for Nigerian or South African numbers, and templates can only be sent from the CRM, not the app.
The 24-hour window and templates
When a customer messages the business, a customer service window opens, and each new message from them extends it. Inside that window the business can reply with normal messages. Outside it, or for first contact, the business must use an approved template, which Meta sorts into Marketing, Utility, Authentication or Service and prices by category and country. HighLevel says Meta usually approves templates within minutes to 24 hours. Conversations started from a Click to WhatsApp ad stay free for 72 hours. Unverified businesses can start up to 250 business conversations in a rolling 24 hours; verified businesses have no such cap, per HighLevel's FAQ.
What changes on October 1, 2026
HighLevel and Meta both change WhatsApp billing on October 1, 2026. The changes apply automatically to every sub-account, with nothing to switch on, and HighLevel says its prices will then match Meta's published rate card line for line, so any charge can be checked against Meta directly. Anyone quoting WhatsApp costs to clients should use the new rules:
- HighLevel removes its 5% processing fee on every WhatsApp message, so rates match Meta's published rate card
- Service messages become billable, with the first 1,000 per phone number each month free; unused allowance does not carry over
- Utility messages sent inside the customer service window become billable, where they had been free
- The US and Canada marketing template rate falls from $0.0263 to $0.0250 per message
- Click to WhatsApp ad conversations keep their free 72-hour window
Reselling WhatsApp to clients
Agencies switch WhatsApp on per client from the sub-account's reselling settings and can charge the client more than the $10 HighLevel charges them. Automatic reselling needs a connected Stripe account; without it, the agency can deploy WhatsApp manually and is billed directly, with message charges taken from the agency wallet. On a client purchase, two subscriptions are created, one between client and agency and one between agency and HighLevel. WhatsApp can only be disabled for a sub-account before the client buys it. Message rates can be rebilled with a multiplier from 1x to 10x.
