The short answer
An AI receptionist for pressure washing companies built on HighLevel Voice AI costs about $0.20 per answered call, or $25 a month for 120 calls averaging 2.5 minutes, phone line included. Roughly 30 of those calls (25%) would come outside office hours, which is where an AI answering service earns its keep. Emergencies, complaints and anything needing judgment should go to a person.
What the AI should handle
Gather surfaces and size
Asks which surfaces, the home's size and number of stories, and whether the roof needs soft washing, then gives your price range or books an estimate.
Screen for delicate surfaces
Asks about old paint, wood siding, stucco and roof material, so the owner knows whether low-pressure soft washing is needed.
Book and confirm water access
Books a date, confirms an outdoor spigot works, and asks the caller to close windows and move vehicles on the day.
Handle commercial inquiries
Collects the property type, square footage and preferred frequency, and creates an opportunity for the owner to bid.
What to send to a person
- Damage claims for paint, plants or etched concrete
- HOA and commercial contract pricing
- Roof washing on steep or fragile roofs
- Customers upset about a streak or a missed area
HighLevel's voice agents can transfer a live call, create a task, or trigger a workflow that texts the owner. Set the handoff rules before the agent goes live.
Cost per call and per month
Assumptions for a typical pressure washing company: 120 calls a month answered by the AI, averaging 2.5 minutes. Phone minutes are billed per call and rounded up, so each call bills 3 phone minutes at $0.01165.
| Setup | AI cost | Phone line | Per month | Per call |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pay per use, Standard voice, GPT-4.1 Mini | $20.40 | $4.19 | $25 | $0.20 |
| Pay per use, ElevenLabs voice, GPT-4.1 Mini | $26.40 | $4.19 | $31 | $0.25 |
| Pay per use, speech-to-speech (OpenAI) | $60.00 | $4.19 | $64 | $0.53 |
| AI Employee Unlimited, $97 flat | $97.00 | $4.19 | $101 | $0.84 |

Compared with staff time
Those 120 calls take about 5 hours of talk time a month. At the US median receptionist wage of $18.27 an hour (May 2025, Bureau of Labor Statistics), that talk time alone is worth about $91, before hold time, breaks, benefits and the calls that come in after hours. An AI receptionist does not replace a good front desk; it catches the overflow and the evenings, and frees staff for the people in front of them.
Sample call
AI AGENTHi, this is the pressure washing crew's virtual assistant. What would you like cleaned?
CALLERThe house siding and the driveway. The north side is really green.
AI AGENTWe can do both. What is the siding made of, and is the house one or two stories?
CALLERVinyl, two stories.
AI AGENTThanks. We soft wash vinyl siding at low pressure, and the driveway gets surface cleaning. About how large is the home, and is it a two-car driveway?
CALLERAround 2,200 square feet, two-car driveway.
AI AGENTThat falls in our standard two-story range. I'll text you the exact price and two open dates this week. Please check that an outdoor faucet works before the visit.
CALLERWill do.
Prompt tips
- Tip 1Tell the agent which surfaces you soft wash and which you pressure wash, so it never promises high pressure on siding, roofs or old wood.
- Tip 2Give it square-footage bands and prices for house washes, plus a per-square-foot rate for flat surfaces, and have it round to your ranges.
- Tip 3Include a short list of jobs you turn down, such as peeling painted surfaces, and have the agent explain why instead of booking them.
Rules to watch
Promotional texts and calls. Seasonal promos and neighbor offers are marketing. Get consent before texting them, include opt-out language, and stop when someone replies STOP or asks in any other reasonable way. The FCC classes AI voices as artificial under the TCPA, so automated promotional calls need written consent.
Reviews and job photos. Use before and after photos only from your own jobs and with the customer's permission. FTC guidance says to ask every customer for reviews, not only happy ones, and not to make any incentive depend on a positive review.
