The short answer

GoHighLevel call recording is a setting on each phone number that records calls and attaches the audio to the call entry in the contact's conversation. It costs $0.0025 per recorded minute, plus $0.0005 per minute per month to store the audio, and transcription adds $0.024 per recorded minute. When recording is on, a recording message such as 'This call will be recorded for quality purposes' plays first, and since March 2025 HighLevel will not save that field blank. HighLevel notes that many US states legally require a recording disclaimer, so leave the announcement on unless a lawyer has cleared your process.

Turning recording on

Recording lives in each number's configuration under the phone system settings, alongside forwarding, timeouts and voicemail, so one sub-account can record its sales line and not its personal lines. The Play Call Recording Message option plays a short notice before recording starts, and that text-to-speech notice bills at $0.00084 per 100 characters. On March 17, 2025 HighLevel made the message mandatory: anyone editing a number's settings must enter at least one non-space character. Numbers already saved with a blank message kept working, but the next edit forces a message. Calls made from a verified caller ID can also be recorded, switched on separately.

Transcripts and what to do with them

Transcription only works on recorded calls and costs $0.024 per recorded minute on top of the recording fee. It applies to calls recorded after you switch it on; older recordings are not processed. Transcripts open from the call entry in Conversations with a View Transcript link under the player. The more useful part is automation. The Transcript Generated workflow trigger fires when a transcript is ready, filters by call type (Voice AI, IVR or normal calls), direction and duration, and passes the full transcript to later steps. A workflow can then summarize the call, tag the contact or create a follow-up task.

What recording costs at volume

Recording is cheap per call, but storage accumulates. A business recording 2,000 minutes a month pays $5 to record them and, if it transcribes them all, $48 for transcripts. Storage is charged every month for every minute kept: after a year, 24,000 stored minutes cost $12 a month and keep growing. None of that is large for one client, but an agency with 40 recording clients should decide how long recordings need to be kept and check the wallet line items each month. Recording only the lines that need it, such as the sales number, is the simplest way to keep the bill down.

HighLevel's dialer article warns not to disable or change the recording announcement until you have confirmed your process meets all applicable consent and disclosure requirements. Recording rules vary by state, and some require every party on the call to agree, so the safe default is to announce every recorded call. For healthcare clients, recordings can contain protected health information; HighLevel sells HIPAA compliance as a $297 a month account-wide add-on that cannot be switched off once enabled. This is general information, so clients in regulated fields should check their obligations with a professional before recording.

Questions

How much does call recording cost in GoHighLevel?
HighLevel charges $0.0025 per recorded minute and $0.0005 per minute per month for storing the recording. Transcription is optional at $0.024 per recorded minute. The call itself is billed separately at the normal inbound or outbound rate, and the recording notice uses text-to-speech billed at $0.00084 per 100 characters.
Can I turn off the call recording message?
Since March 2025 the recording message field cannot be left blank when you edit a number's settings. HighLevel says the announcement can be edited or disabled where the interface allows, but advises against removing it unless you have confirmed your recording process meets consent and disclosure laws. Many US states require a disclaimer.
Does GoHighLevel transcribe old call recordings?
No. Transcription starts only with calls recorded after you enable it, so past recordings stay audio only. Recording must also be switched on for the phone number, because transcription works from the recording. Voice AI calls are the exception: HighLevel transcribes those by default.
Where do GoHighLevel call recordings appear?
Recordings attach to the call entry in the contact's conversation, with a player and, if transcription is on, a View Transcript link. Voicemail from the dialer also shows transcripts where enabled. For IVR calls that create several recordings, the Call Reporting dashboard lets you choose between them.
