The short answer
GoHighLevel Communities is the online community tool included in every HighLevel plan. Members join groups with public and private channels, post and comment, earn points and levels, attend live sessions and reach linked courses, through the Client Portal or the HighLevel mobile app. Groups and events can be free or paid, with tax applied at checkout. HighLevel says Go Live sessions have no cap on participants or stream length. There is no per-member fee, and a branded app for the portal is a $49 a month add-on per sub-account.

Groups and channels
A group is the community space, and channels are discussion areas inside it. Channels can be public or private. Private channels are hidden from non-members, are managed by the channel creator and group owner as channel managers, and group admin rights do not carry into them, which makes them useful for paid tiers or staff-only areas. Groups can have customized navigation tabs and custom CSS or JavaScript, and posts support polls, voice notes, and tags that link channels, events and courses. Members can pin favorite groups and leave groups on their own.
Live sessions
Go Live has two modes. Meeting Room is interactive, with host and attendee roles, video, screen sharing and reactions. Stream Software mode connects an external tool such as OBS or Zoom, and viewers watch and chat inside the community. HighLevel states there is no cap on participants or on stream length, recordings can be replayed, and post authors and group admins can download them. Community events can also use Live Rooms with video, audio, screen share, chat and raise hand. Members join from a browser or the mobile app while signed in, with no extra software.
Engagement tools
Gamification awards one point per like to the author of a post or comment. Members climb 9 levels per group, with level 9 at 33,015 points, and badges show on profiles. Level names can be renamed but the point thresholds cannot, levels restart in each group, points never reset, and each group can list up to 3 rewards, which have to be handled manually because they cannot be tied to levels. Automatic newsletters send group highlights daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly once an owner or admin turns them on, and workflow triggers fire on posts, comments, join requests and events.
Moderation and selling access
HighLevel added content moderation in September 2026: posts and comments matching flagged keywords are held for review before they go live. Admins can also ban members, handle reported content and control commenting on posts. For revenue, HighLevel supports paid group memberships, courses sold through communities, paid events and event subscriptions. Tax uses the sub-account's existing payment tax settings, automatic or manual, and members see the tax before checkout. Creators can also manage communities and courses from GoKollab Studio, provided their HighLevel and GoKollab sign-in emails match.
Costs add up differently for every account. Put your numbers into the HighLevel cost calculator, or browse every HighLevel feature.
