The short answer
GoHighLevel for car dealerships works as one system for calls, texts, bookings, reviews and follow-up. A single car dealership fits on Starter at $97 a month. With our assumed volumes the all-in bill is about $252 a month. An agency running ten car dealerships on Unlimited pays about $185 per business.
A dealership's phones split between sales and service, and both leak. Shoppers call about a specific vehicle at 9 p.m., and service customers call to book an oil change while advisors are writing up the morning rush. An internet lead that waits hours for a reply may already be talking to another store. HighLevel can answer leads within minutes by text, follow up with shoppers who are not ready, send service reminders and request reviews. A Voice AI agent can answer inventory and hours questions, book test drives and service appointments, and hand pricing, trade-in values and financing to people.
Why car dealerships miss leads
These are the calls and messages a typical car dealership has to catch. Each one is a job, a booking or a sale if someone answers quickly:
- Is this vehicle still available
- Book a test drive
- Trade-in value
- Financing and payment questions
- Service appointment or oil change
- Recall or warranty repair
- Sales and service hours
Five workflows to build first
- Speed-to-lead responseNew internet leads get a text within a minute confirming the vehicle they asked about and offering test drive times. A salesperson task follows, and unanswered leads get a second touch the same day.
- Unsold shopper follow-upShoppers who visited but did not buy get texts and emails over 90 days with similar vehicles and price changes, plus a monthly task for the assigned salesperson. Anyone who buys leaves the sequence.
- Service remindersCustomers get reminders based on the next service date or mileage in their record, with a booking link that opens the service calendar directly.
- Service to sales handoffWhen a service customer's vehicle passes a mileage or age threshold the store sets, a workflow tags them and creates a sales follow-up task. The message should offer options, not pressure.
- Review requests by departmentSend separate review requests after a sale and after a service visit, to every customer, using the store's Google review link. Google prohibits selective solicitation and incentives for reviews.
HighLevel's workflow builder runs all of these, and missed call text back is usually the quickest win.

Adding an AI receptionist
Voice AI can answer the calls above around the clock, book them into the calendar and pass the hard ones to a person. On our assumptions it costs about $0.21 per answered call, phone line included. What the AI should handle, what it should hand to staff and a sample call are in our guide to an AI receptionist for car dealerships.
Rules to watch
FTC Safeguards Rule. The FTC says most dealers that finance or lease vehicles are financial institutions under the Safeguards Rule. That means a written information security program, oversight of service providers such as a CRM, and notifying the FTC within 30 days of discovering a breach of unencrypted information on 500 or more consumers.
AI voices and the TCPA. The FCC ruled on February 8, 2024 that AI-generated voices are artificial under the TCPA. Outbound Voice AI calls to leads and service customers need the consent those rules require, and prerecorded telemarketing calls need prior written consent. HighLevel also requires consent language covering AI calls.
Keep credit data out of AI calls. Do not let the AI collect Social Security numbers, income or other credit application details by voice. Text the dealership's secure credit application link instead, so that data stays inside the systems covered by the store's Safeguards Rule program.
General information, not legal advice. Check the rules for your state with a qualified professional.
Software car dealerships often use
CDK Global, Reynolds and Reynolds, VinSolutions, DealerSocket, Elead, Dealertrack. Check the HighLevel marketplace or ask HighLevel before assuming any of these connect directly.
Which plan
One car dealership fits on Starter at $97 a month, which includes 3 sub-accounts. Move to Unlimited at $297 if you run more than three locations or brands. Agencies serving many car dealerships should compare Unlimited with Agency Pro and SaaS Mode, which lets you resell and mark up usage.
