The short answer
GoHighLevel for painters works as one system for calls, texts, bookings, reviews and follow-up. A single painting contractor fits on Starter at $97 a month. With our assumed volumes the all-in bill is about $141 a month. An agency running ten painters on Unlimited pays about $74 per business.
Painting contractors win work on estimates, and estimates start on the phone. Homeowners want to know whether you do cabinets, how long an interior takes and when you could start, and they often call three painters in the same afternoon. Owners who still estimate and run crews miss many of those calls, and quotes that go out without follow-up quietly die. Older homes add another layer, because houses built before 1978 bring federal lead-safe rules that change how a job is priced and scheduled.
Why painters miss leads
These are the calls and messages a typical painting contractor has to catch. Each one is a job, a booking or a sale if someone answers quickly:
- Interior painting estimate
- Exterior painting estimate
- Kitchen cabinet painting
- Color consultation
- Deck or fence staining
- Drywall repair before painting
- Start date and how long the job takes
Five workflows to build first
- Estimate booking with photosNew leads get a link to book an in-person or video estimate and a text asking for photos of the rooms or exterior. The estimator arrives already knowing the scope.
- Proposal follow-upAfter the estimate, the proposal goes out by email and text, then a reminder in three days and a call task in a week. Leads who say they're waiting on other bids get a check-in two weeks later.
- Color selection deadlineBooked jobs get a text with a date for final color choices and a link to your color guide, so crews don't arrive to a customer who hasn't decided.
- Pre-job prep instructionsTwo days before the start, the customer gets a checklist: move furniture and wall hangings, arrange for pets and leave driveway space for the crew's trucks.
- Portfolio and review requestAt completion, the customer gets a review request and a separate question asking whether you may use photos of their home. Every customer gets the same messages.
HighLevel's workflow builder runs all of these, and missed call text back is usually the quickest win.

Adding an AI receptionist
Voice AI can answer the calls above around the clock, book them into the calendar and pass the hard ones to a person. On our assumptions it costs about $0.28 per answered call, phone line included. What the AI should handle, what it should hand to staff and a sample call are in our guide to an AI receptionist for painters.
Rules to watch
Lead-safe work in older homes. EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule requires anyone paid to disturb painted surfaces in homes, child care facilities and preschools built before 1978 to be certified, with employees trained. Have the AI ask the build year on every estimate call and never tell a caller that lead rules don't apply.
Consent for quote texts and calls. Record on the estimate form that the customer agreed to texts about their quote, and keep a separate box for marketing. If you add AI-voiced follow-up calls, the FCC's 2024 ruling treats them as artificial voice calls that need prior express consent.

PaintScout, DripJobs, Estimate Rocket, CompanyCam, Jobber. Check the HighLevel marketplace or ask HighLevel before assuming any of these connect directly.
Which plan
One painting contractor fits on Starter at $97 a month, which includes 3 sub-accounts. Move to Unlimited at $297 if you run more than three locations or brands. Agencies serving many painters should compare Unlimited with Agency Pro and SaaS Mode, which lets you resell and mark up usage.
