The short answer

GoHighLevel for sign companies works as one system for calls, texts, bookings, reviews and follow-up. A single sign company fits on Starter at $97 a month. With our assumed volumes the all-in bill is about $142 a month. An agency running ten sign companies on Unlimited pays about $75 per business.

Sign companies sell projects with long, uneven timelines: a storefront channel letter job can move from first call to site survey, design proof, landlord approval, permit and install over several weeks. Each step needs a follow-up, and the calls come from very different people: a restaurant owner wanting a price, a general contractor asking about install dates, a property manager chasing a permit. When the estimator is out measuring a building, those calls go to voicemail and bids go to whoever called back first.

Why sign companies miss leads

These are the calls and messages a typical sign company has to catch. Each one is a job, a booking or a sale if someone answers quickly:

  • Price for a storefront or monument sign
  • Vehicle wrap or window vinyl quote
  • Status of a permit or landlord approval
  • Scheduling a site survey
  • Install date for a contractor's project
  • Lit sign that stopped working
  • ADA room signs for a new office

Five workflows to build first

  1. Site survey bookingQuote requests for exterior signs ask for the business address, sign type and whether the landlord has sign criteria. The customer picks a survey time from the estimator's calendar and gets a text the morning of the visit with the estimator's name.
  2. Proof approval chaseWhen a design proof is emailed, the opportunity moves to 'Proof out'. A text after two days asks for approval or changes; an approval moves the job to permitting and creates a task to prepare drawings for the city.
  3. Permit status updatesEach time the project manager moves a job between 'Permit submitted', 'Permit approved' and 'Scheduled for install', the customer gets a plain-language text, so fewer people need to call and ask where things stand.
  4. Repair service intakeA repair form captures the sign location, what is out (letters, cabinet, timer) and photos. The customer gets a confirmation text and a technician task is created with the details, so the truck arrives with the right parts.
  5. Fleet wrap follow-upBusinesses that wrapped one vehicle get an email six months later asking about the rest of their fleet, with photos of recent wraps and a link to the quote form.

HighLevel's workflow builder runs all of these, and missed call text back is usually the quickest win.

Adding an AI receptionist

Voice AI can answer the calls above around the clock, book them into the calendar and pass the hard ones to a person. On our assumptions it costs about $0.32 per answered call, phone line included. What the AI should handle, what it should hand to staff and a sample call are in our guide to an AI receptionist for sign companies.

Rules to watch

ADA sign standards. The 2010 ADA Standards set rules for tactile signs, including raised characters that are uppercase and sans serif, with the baseline of the lowest tactile character at least 48 inches and the highest at most 60 inches above the floor. The AI can say you work to these standards but should route specification questions to staff.

Permits and landlord approval. Exterior signs often need a local permit and, in leased spaces, approval under the landlord's sign criteria. Rules differ by city, so the AI should never promise approval or a permit date, and should tell callers the project manager will confirm what their site requires.

General information, not legal advice. Check the rules for your state with a qualified professional.

Software sign companies often use

shopVOX, Cyrious Control, FlexiSIGN, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW. Check the HighLevel marketplace or ask HighLevel before assuming any of these connect directly.

Which plan

One sign company fits on Starter at $97 a month, which includes 3 sub-accounts. Move to Unlimited at $297 if you run more than three locations or brands. Agencies serving many sign companies should compare Unlimited with Agency Pro and SaaS Mode, which lets you resell and mark up usage.

Questions

How does a sign company use HighLevel pipelines?
A typical pipeline mirrors the job: inquiry, survey booked, proof out, approved, permit submitted, permit approved, scheduled, installed. Each stage change can text the customer a status update or create a task for the next person. The pipeline view then shows the estimator how many projects are waiting on proofs or city approvals.
Can HighLevel send design proofs to customers?
Yes, by email or text from the customer's conversation thread, with the file attached or linked, and the estimates and proposals feature can carry pricing for approval. Keep proof versions and markups in your design software; the approval conversation stays in one thread per customer, so nobody hunts through inboxes.
Is HighLevel useful for a sign shop's marketing?
It covers what a sign company needs: a website with quote forms, Google review requests after install, emails to past customers about services such as wraps or ADA signs, and ads run through Ad Manager, which now has no platform fee. Photos of finished installs give the Social Planner plenty to post.
What does HighLevel cost a sign company each month?
Starter at $97 a month, or $970 a year, covers one company with unlimited users, so estimators and installers can each log in. Usage adds little at typical volumes: 300 texts cost about $2.24 before carrier fees and 800 emails about $0.54. AI call answering, if used, is billed separately.
