Rules to watch
Under-18 warning. The FDA requires sunlamp products to carry the statement 'This sunlamp product should not be used on persons under the age of 18 years', and it says UV exposure can cause skin cancer. State laws may add their own limits on minors. Have the AI pass any question about teens to a manager and never describe beds as safe.
No health benefit claims. In 2010 the Indoor Tanning Association settled FTC charges that it made deceptive health and safety claims, including about vitamin D and skin cancer risk. Keep the AI's script free of health or vitamin D claims and limited to prices, hours and services.
Make canceling simple. For memberships sold online with recurring billing, the FTC says ROSCA requires clear terms, informed consent and a simple way to stop charges, and in 2025 it sued LA Fitness over hard-to-cancel memberships. Let the AI accept cancellation requests by phone and pass them to staff.
