How text to pay works

From a contact's conversation, choose the SMS channel and use the Request Payment icon to build the request. You pick products, apply discounts and tax at send time, and can set a due date. The customer receives a text with a link to a checkout page that can be customized with your brand colors, and pays there. Test and live modes are both available, so run a test request to your own phone first. Links for several products, including a mix of one-time and recurring items, are also supported through payment links.

What you need before the first request

Three things must be in place. First, an active HighLevel Payments connection through Stripe; the text-to-pay article names Stripe specifically, so PayPal or NMI alone will not do. Second, an active phone number in the sub-account that can send SMS. For US numbers that means passing A2P 10DLC registration, which carries one-time and monthly campaign fees and can take time to approve. Third, at least one active product with a price. Set those up during onboarding so the first request to a customer does not stall.

What each request costs

HighLevel does not charge for the text-to-pay feature itself. The costs are the SMS and the card fee. A one-segment text to a Verizon customer costs $0.00747 plus a $0.0050 carrier fee, about 1.2 cents; to AT&T it is $0.00747 plus $0.0035. A local number costs $1.15 a month. The payment then carries Stripe's processing fee, and ACH usually costs less than cards according to HighLevel's ACH article. For a $300 service call, the messaging cost is negligible next to the processing fee.

Wallets and bank payments

Apple Pay and Google Pay appear on text-to-pay links when Stripe is connected; no other provider supports them. They depend on the customer's device, browser and location, and Apple Pay needs the domain registered with Stripe, which HighLevel does automatically on connection. Stripe treats wallet payments as card payments with the same fees. ACH Direct Debit is also supported on text-to-pay links once it is enabled in the Stripe account, which suits larger balances where card fees add up.

When to use it

Text to pay suits businesses that finish a job and want the balance settled on the spot: home services, mobile detailing, trades, photographers and salons. It replaces a phone call to read out card numbers. For formal records, scheduled billing or reminders, send an invoice instead, since invoices carry automated reminders and recurring schedules. Pair either with the Payment Received workflow trigger to send a thank-you and a review request automatically once the customer pays.
