The short answer
GoHighLevel for family law attorneys works as one system for calls, texts, bookings, reviews and follow-up. A single family law firm fits on Starter at $97 a month. With our assumed volumes the all-in bill is about $185 a month. An agency running ten family law attorneys on Unlimited pays about $118 per business.
Family law calls are emotional, private and often urgent. A parent may be calling about a custody exchange this weekend, a spouse may have just been served, or a caller may be afraid of the person they live with. Many call from shared phones or with the other party nearby. Intake must be gentle, discreet and quick to escalate danger, and conflict checks must be careful, because in a divorce both spouses may call the same firm within days of each other.
Why family law attorneys miss leads
These are the calls and messages a typical family law firm has to catch. Each one is a job, a booking or a sale if someone answers quickly:
- Starting a divorce or legal separation
- Custody or parenting time problems
- Child support or alimony questions
- Just served with papers
- Protective order or safety concerns
- Changing an existing order
- Consultation fee and retainer questions
Five workflows to build first
- Safe contact preferencesThe intake form and the AI both ask how and when it is safe to contact the caller, and a workflow checks that field so no automated text or voicemail reaches a phone the other party might see.
- Conflict check on both spousesEvery inquiry records the caller's name and the other party's name, and staff run conflicts before any consultation. A spouse who consulted first can conflict the firm out of representing the other, so this step is never skipped.
- Discreet consultation remindersAfter clearance, the caller receives a booking link and reminders worded without the words divorce or custody, in case someone else reads the message.
- Retainer and document checklistOnce retained, the client gets a checklist of documents to gather, such as tax returns and pay stubs, with reminders spaced out so the task does not feel overwhelming.
- Hearing and mediation remindersClients receive reminders before hearings and mediation sessions with instructions from their attorney, which cuts missed dates and last-minute calls to the office.
HighLevel's workflow builder runs all of these, and missed call text back is usually the quickest win.

Adding an AI receptionist
Voice AI can answer the calls above around the clock, book them into the calendar and pass the hard ones to a person. On our assumptions it costs about $0.40 per answered call, phone line included. What the AI should handle, what it should hand to staff and a sample call are in our guide to an AI receptionist for family law attorneys.
Rules to watch
Conflicts between spouses. ABA Model Rule 1.18 keeps information from a prospective client confidential even if no representation follows, and receiving significantly harmful information can bar the firm from representing the other side in the same matter. Model Rule 1.7 governs conflicts among current clients. Staff, not the AI, must run and clear every check.
Confidentiality and safe contact. Model Rule 1.6 requires reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to client information. In family matters that includes not sending texts, emails or voicemails to devices the other party may see. Honor the contact preferences collected at intake and keep sensitive facts out of automated messages.
Fees in domestic relations matters. Model Rule 1.5 prohibits fees in domestic relations matters that depend on securing a divorce or on the amount of alimony, support or a property settlement. The AI should describe the firm's fee policy only in approved wording and leave retainer terms to staff.
General information, not legal advice. Check the rules for your state with a qualified professional.

Which plan
One family law firm fits on Starter at $97 a month, which includes 3 sub-accounts. Move to Unlimited at $297 if you run more than three locations or brands. Agencies serving many family law attorneys should compare Unlimited with Agency Pro and SaaS Mode, which lets you resell and mark up usage.
